The word science is from the L. scire "to know"and seems to have originated from the idea of separating one thing from another as people sought to solve practical problems and understand the nature of the world around them.
The scientific method of acquiring knowledge is generally described as observating a phenomenon, forming a hypothesis to explain the phenomenon, and then testing the hypothesis by means of objective, reproducible experiment.
The science paradigm (a term introduced by Thomas Kuhn) so permeates contemporary life it is almost impossible to imagine another set of rules to describe reality.
The Global PathMarkers as Scientist - Albert Einstein, Carl Gustav Jung, Maria Montessori and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin are all scientists - they have contributed immensely to the knowledge of the world through theory and experiment, yet each is considered to have made tremendous contributions to culture in the forms of education and spirituality. Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain was also a great admirer of scientific gadgets and applied technology.
